Today was my second workshop using Adobe After Effects. For those of you who don’t know what AE is (myself a week ago), it is an Adobe programme which uses digital motion graphics, visual effects and composition which is used in the post production of animations and TV/Film productions. I had my first lesson a few days ago and we created a basic five second video (I say basic… it took an hour and a half) of text and audio. The whole concept reminded me of an animation you see during the ad breaks on Comedy Central. Big, bold and funny. Comparing a screenshot of my first project to an advert on Comedy Central, they look quite similar.
So in our second workshop, my lecturer introduced us to green screen. Through my media background I was already clued up on how it worked etc. I got carried away in my year seven self and started playing around with the different effects on Photobooth when my lecturer suggested to use an effect because it made the whole thing look better! I put this to the use and hit record, filming a 7 second video of my face doing random movements on a green screen backdrop.
We then started to begin another five second video on AE. We were taught how to add in images, to crop, cut and re size without distorting it etc. Once we had what our lecturer wanted, she asked us to add some text, similar to what we did in our first lesson and to add an appropriate background. It didn’t have to be anything crazy, just simple. So here is my final creation, that again took a good hour and a half.
Hopefully one day I’ll be able to make one of these in a few minutes!
